"SPLASH DOWN" OIL ON COPPER SHEILA WEDEGIS LABRADOR RETRIEVER ART

SOLD
"SPLASH DOWN"
oil on copper

Wow, what a horrific week. As you know I am originally from Boston. Brighton to be exact. Watertown is about 7-10 miles away.  The Arsenal there was turned into a Mall and we went there frequently with my Mum. She loved shopping.  The Marathon was a neighborhood event each year. Living on Foster Street, we connected with Brighton center on one end and Comm Ave at the top.  Dad took us all up and we sat on the wall , the bottom of Heart Break Hill in site. and we began waving and cheering with balloons. We saw all the greats pass.

I have cried at the senseless deaths this week, cheered for the Boston police, FBI, special forces...and now in their honor, I am back to work. So very proud to be a Bostonian...and..I still have my accent!!!

DOGS IN WATER SERIES OIL ON COPPER SHEILA WEDEGIS ART

"TAG! YOU'RE IT"
6" x 6" oil on copper

As you can see I am quite taken by painting on copper.  These will all be signed and numbered with a Certificate of Authenticity. (That's how excited I am about it)

I have been working on my dogs in water series and decided today to try it on copper. The oil slipped and slid and I found I could do small little details that were so much harder on canvas. For an example, the hair of the yellow Lab under the water. I glazed on an almost a "no see" color and let the copper work with it. Heaven!!  It gave me that see through feeling I love when I do Labs swimming in water.

THE HUNT OIL ON COPPER SHEILA WEDEGIS LAB ART

SOLD

THE HUNT
6" x 12" oil on copper

This July we are going back to the Highlands of Scotland to visit our friends. The beauty there is breathtaking, the silence so calming. The openness of the land and the people. And, they all have Labs or wonderful happy pups. I think in another lifetime I lived there because it feels like home.

This is my second oil on copper painting. When dried thoroughly, I will coat it with a protective Galkyd sealer and frame it in a small gold frame.

LABRADOR RETRIEVER ART OIL ON COPPER SHEILA WEDEGIS

Yes, you are correct, you have seen this image before but not this painting. I have been following an artist that paints on copper panels. Susan Renee Lammers.  I'll send you to her  BLOG on Why Paint On Copper. She explains it so well and it's informative.

I had my doubts about painting on copper, thinking it would bend, tarnish etc, but as I started working today I have fallen in love.  I felt such energy in working as the Masters had centuries ago.  Ideas flowed today as I worked preparing the copper. As you can see the copper is actually glowing under the paint.

Looking through my images from my Scotland trip a few years ago I am excited to create paintings, and yes, with Labs.  I may even have to stay up all night the excitement is so great!!

This painting is 6" x 12" oil on copper panel, mounted on acid free backing and framed.

$350.00 S&H included
